← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 434

O heart, be never one breath empty of love and drunkenness;
then go your way — from being and non-being you are freed.
If you see the soul within the flesh, busy yourself with His work;
whatever prayer-ward you find is better than worship of self.
With frailty and infirmity, be glad, like the morning breeze;
upon this road, a sickness is better than robust health.
In the creed of the Path, unripeness is the mark of unbelief;
yes — fortune's road is nimbleness of foot and quickness.
While you see your own merit and wit, you sit devoid of knowing;
one point I'll tell you: never fancy yourself among the saved.
On the Beloved's threshold, cast no glance toward the sky,
lest, from the height of pride, you fall to the dust of the low.
Though the thorn wear the soul, the rose will plead its pardon;
the wine's bitterness is light beside the rapture of the drunk.
Sufi, go measuring cups; Hafez, shun the flagon;
O short of sleeve, how long this reaching of long hands?
