← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 337

Why should I not set forth upon the resolve of my own land?
Why should I not be the dust at the head of my Beloved's lane?
Since I can bear no more the grief of exile and of strangeness,
I will go to my own city and be my own crowned lord.
Let me become one of the intimates of the pavilion of union,
let me be of the servants of my own sovereign Lord.
Since the work of life is uncertain, it is best of all
that on the day of the event I stand before my own beloved.
From the hand of heavy-slumbering fate and unruly toil,
if I have any grievance, I keep it my own secret-keeper.
Ever was my calling love and roguery;
again let me strive, and busy myself with my own work.
It may be the grace of the Eternal will guide me, Hafez;
if not, to all eternity I stand ashamed before myself.
