Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 288
The water's edge, the willow's foot, a bent for verse, a friend most sweet,
a sweet heart-ravishing companion, and a rose-cheeked cupbearer—how sweet!
Ah, you of fortunate ascendant, who know the value of the hour,
may this delight sit well with you—for yours is a sweet season.
Whoever bears within his mind a load of love for a heart-ravisher,
tell him: cast rue on the fire, for his is a sweet affair.
The bride of my nature I deck with jewels of virgin thought,
in hope that from the hand of time a sweet idol may fall to my hand.
Prize the night of company, and take the wage of a glad heart,
for the moonlight is heart-brightening, and beside it a sweet tulip-field.
There is a wine in the bowl of the cupbearer's eye—God bless it—
that plays at drunkenness with reason, and grants a sweet delirium.
Life has passed in heedlessness, Hafez—come with us to the tavern,
that the merry, good-cheered ones may teach you a sweet craft.
