Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 280
When the breeze unbound her ambergris-scattering tress,
to every broken one it touched, the soul was made anew.
Where is a fellow-breather, that I may tell in full
what the heart suffers through the days of her parting?
The age framed, from the rose's leaf, the image of your face;
but, in shame before you, hid it away in the bud.
You lie asleep, and love's far shore has not appeared;
blessed be God for this road that has no ending!
Perhaps the Kaaba's beauty will plead the wayfarers' excuse,
for the souls of the living-hearted burned within its waste.
To this broken House of Sorrows, who brings me now
the token of the heart's Joseph from the well of her chin?
I will seize that tress by the crown and lay it in the master's hand,
for heart-lost Hafez was consumed by her guile and wiles.
