← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 268

One rose-cheek from the world's rose-garden is enough for us;
of all this meadow, the shade of that swaying cypress is enough.
Far be from me the company of the hypocrites' tribe;
of the world's grave men, one heavy measure of wine is enough.
They grant the palace of Eden as the wage of deeds;
we, who are rends and beggars, the Magian tavern is enough.
Sit by the brook's lip, and behold how life flows past,
for this one hint of the fleeting world is enough for us.
Behold the market-cash of the world, and the world's own harm;
if this gain and loss content you not, for us it is enough.
The Friend is with us—what need have we to seek for more?
The fortune of that soul-comrade's converse is enough.
For God's sake, send me not from your door to Paradise,
for the head of your street, of all being and space, is enough.
Hafez, to complain of one's allotted spring is unjust;
a nature clear as water, and flowing ghazals, are enough.
