Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 140
The heart-thief went, and gave no word to those who lost their hearts;
she thought not of the town's companion, nor of the fellow of the road.
Either my fortune cast aside the courteous law of faith,
or she would set no foot upon the highroad of the Path.
I said: perhaps by weeping I may turn her heart to grace;
but it was stone, and on that stony heart no weeping left a mark.
Play not the wanton, for the restless bird within my breast
has never driven from its head the passion for love's snare.
Each one who saw your face bent down and kissed my eye,
for what my eye achieved, it never wrought devoid of sight.
I stood, that I might give my soul for her, as the candle burns;
she of herself would never pass by us, as the dawn wind glides.
