← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 75

That drowsy, teasing narcissus of yours is not without cause;
the tangled fall of that dark tress of yours is not without cause.
Milk was still flowing from your lip when I began to say:
this sugar strewn about your salt-cup is not without cause.
Long may your life endure! — for well and surely do I know
the arrow strung to your lashes' bow is not without cause.
Stricken you are with the grief of trial and the pang of parting;
O heart, this moaning and this outcry of yours is not without cause.
Last night the wind swept from her lane across the rose-parterre;
O rose, this rending of your collar is not without cause.
Though the pain of love keeps the heart concealed from every eye,
O Hafez, this weeping eye of yours is not without cause.
