Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 57
That dark-hued one, with whom is the sweetness of the world,
with whom are the wine-hued eye, the laughing lip, the joyful heart.
Though the sweet-mouthed are kings, yet he alone
is the Solomon of the age, for the seal-ring is his.
A fair face, perfection of skill, and a spotless skirt —
no wonder the aspiration of both worlds' pure ones is his.
The musky mole upon that wheat-hued cheek —
the secret of that grain which waylaid Adam is his.
My heart-ravisher has resolved to journey; for God's sake, friends,
what shall I do with my wounded heart, when the balm is his?
To whom can this fine point be told — that the stony-hearted one
has slain us, and the breath of Jesus, son of Mary, is his?
Hafez is among the faithful — hold him dear,
for the grace of so noble a spirit is his.
