← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 487

O unaware one, strive, that you may become a knower;
till you are a wayfarer, how will you become a guide?
In the school of realities, before the Teacher of love,
take heed, O son — strive, that one day you may become a father.
Wash your hand of the copper of existence, like the men of the road,
that you may find love's alchemy and turn to gold.
Sleep and food have held you far from your rank;
you reach yourself only when you grow free of sleep and food.
If the light of God's love falls upon your heart and soul,
by God, you grow fairer than the sun of the sphere.
Be one moment drowned in the sea of God; think not
that the water of the seven seas will wet a single hair of you.
From foot to head, all of you becomes the light of God,
when, on the road of the Majestic, you grow without foot or head.
If the Face of God become the vista of your gaze,
henceforth no doubt remains that you grow a man of insight.
When the foundation of your being is overthrown,
hold in your heart no fear that you are overthrown.
If in your head is the longing for union, Hafez,
you must become the dust at the door of the people of art.
