← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 447

Come, hold not this grudge against us any longer,
for you owe the debt of an old and long-kept friendship.
Give ear to counsel — this pearl is worth far more
than any jewel you keep in your treasure-hoard.
But when will you show your face to the roguish lovers,
you who hold a mirror wrought of the sun and moon?
Speak not ill of the roguish lovers, shaikh, take heed,
for you bear a grudge against the decree of God.
Do you not dread my fiery, burning sigh,
trusting only that you wear a woollen cloak?
Come to the cry of the bankrupt's aching hangover,
for God's sake, if you keep a drop of last night's wine.
I have seen nothing sweeter than your verse, Hafez,
by the Qur'an that you carry within your breast.
