Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 399
Play one coquettish glance — shatter the mart of sorcery;
with a single glance shatter Samiri's fame and gleam.
Cast to the wind the head and turban of a whole world —
that is: tilt your cap's corner in the mode of sovereign lords.
Say to your tress: 'Give over the ritual of ravishing hearts';
say to your glance: 'Shatter the false coin of tyranny.'
Stroll forth, and bear off beauty's ball from every rival;
give the houri her due — and shatter the fairy's gleam.
With gazelle-glances seize and hold the lion of the sun;
with your twin bow-brows shatter Jupiter's high arc.
When the hyacinth-tress grinds out its scent on the wind's breath,
break its price with a single strand of your ambergris curl.
When the nightingale sets his eloquence for sale, O Hafez,
break his worth by speaking in the pure tongue of Dari.
