Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 395
Make of the musky hyacinth a veil to cloak the rose-petal;
that is, cover over your cheek, and lay a whole world to ruin.
Shake the dew of sweat from off your cheek, and the borders of the garden,
like the glass-flasks of our weeping eye, brim over full with rosewater.
Since the rose's season, like our life, has made all haste to be gone,
cupbearer, make haste in the round of the rose-red wine's sweet passing.
Open, in the sleep-heavy manner of the drunken narcissus, your eye;
and out of envy of the graceful narcissus's eye, lull it to sleep.
Breathe in the scent of the violet, and take fast hold of the Friend's tress;
look on the colour of the tulip, and set your resolve on the wine.
Since the custom and the habit of slaying lovers is your own,
drain the goblet down with the foes, and turn your rebuke on us.
Like the bubble, open wide your eye upon the goblet's face,
and reckon the foundation of this house frail as the bubble is.
Hafez seeks the grace of union along the pathway of prayer;
O Lord, let the prayer of the wounded-hearted be heard and granted at last.
