← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 20

The fast is laid aside, the feast has come, and hearts have risen;
the wine has surged from the vault, and one must call for it.
The turn of the tiresome, heavy-souled sellers of abstinence has passed;
plainly it is the hour of the rends' revelry and mirth.
What blame is there for the one who drinks such wine?
What flaw is this, what folly, and what sin?
A wine-drinker in whom is no cant or hypocrisy
is better than a piety-seller in whom is show and pretense.
We are neither hypocrite rends nor comrades of duplicity;
He who knows the secret is witness to this our state.
We perform God's ordinance and do no ill to any;
and what they call unlawful, we do not call lawful.
What harm if you and I should drink a few cups of wine?
The wine is from the blood of the vine, not from your blood.
What flaw is this, from which any harm should come?
And even were it so — what of it? Where is the man without flaw?
