Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 15
O holy vision, who shall draw the fastening of your veil?
And O bird of paradise, who shall give you seed and water?
Sleep fled from my eye in this heart-scorching thought:
whose embrace became the home of your ease and slumber?
You ask not after the dervish, and I fear you hold
no thought of pardon, no care for the merit of reward.
That languorous eye has waylaid the lovers' hearts;
plain from this manner that your wine runs drunk.
The arrow you loosed at my heart from your glance went astray;
let us see what next your sound judgment devises.
Every wail and cry I raised, you would not hear;
plain it is, my idol, that your court stands high.
The spring's head is far from this waste — take heed,
lest the desert-ghoul beguile you with a mirage.
How, on the road of old age, will you now walk, O heart?
For once, the days of your youth were squandered in error.
O heart-kindling palace, home of intimacy —
God grant the blight of time may never lay you waste.
Hafez is no slave who flees his master;
make peace and return, for I am ruined by your reproach.
