← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 135

Like the wind I will set my course toward the head of the loved one's lane,
and make my every breath a shower of musk with her sweet scent.
In vain, bereft of wine and love, this life goes slipping by;
enough of idleness — from this day on I set myself to work.
Each shred of honour I have gleaned from learning and from faith
I'll scatter as a strewing on the dust of that idol's road.
Since, like the candle of the dawn, her love has kindled me to light,
I vow to spend what life is left upon this one great task.
In memory of your eye I'll lay myself in ruin with the wine,
and set on firm foundations once again the ancient covenant.
Where is the breeze, that I may give this soul, blood-caught like the rose,
a ransom for the fragrance breathing from the loved one's tress?
Cant and hypocrisy will never grant the heart its purity, Hafez;
the road of rendship and of love is what I choose to walk.
