Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 122
Whoever guards the side of the people of God,
God, in every state, guards him from calamity.
I tell no tale of the Friend save in the Friend's own presence,
for the intimate keeps safe the intimate's word.
O heart, so order your life that, should your foot slip,
your angel may hold you fast with two praying hands.
If you would have the beloved never break the pact,
keep hold of the thread's-end, and she will keep her hold.
O breeze, should you spy my heart on that tress-tip,
tell it, out of grace, to keep to its place.
When I begged her, 'Guard my heart,' what did she answer?
'What can the slave contrive? It is God who guards.'
My head, my gold, my heart, my soul be ransom for that friend
who keeps the due of company, of love and of faith.
Where is the dust of your passing, that Hafez may keep it
as a keepsake bequeathed by the breeze of the dawn?
