← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 114

The Huma at the zenith of bliss will drop into our snare,
if but your passing footstep fall upon our station.
Like a bubble I will fling my cap away for joy,
if a single reflection of your face fall into our cup.
On the night the moon of longing rises over the rim,
it may be that one ray of light will fall upon our roof.
At your court, where not even the wind is granted leave,
when shall the chance to greet you ever fall to us?
When my soul was made your lip's ransom, I framed the hope
that one drop of its clear water might fall to our desire.
The fancy of your tress replied: make not your soul the bait,
for much of this quarry, unbid, will fall into our snare.
Go not away despairing from this door — cast an omen;
it may be that the die of fortune will fall to our name.
Whenever Hafez breathes a word of the dust of your street,
the breeze of the soul's rose-garden falls upon our senses.
