Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 91
O you, hidden from the eye, to God I now commit you;
you have burned my soul away, and yet in my heart I love you.
Not till I trail my shroud's hem beneath the foot of the dust
shall you believe my hand will loose its hold upon your hem.
Show me the prayer-niche of your brow, that at the hour of dawn
I may lift up my praying hands and wind them round your neck.
If I must journey away toward Harut of Babylon,
a hundred kinds of sorcery I will work, to bring you back.
I would sooner die before you, O faithless physician;
come, ask after the sick man, for still I wait for you.
A hundred streams of water I have drawn from my eye to the shore,
in hope of sowing within my heart the very seed of love for you.
She shed my blood, and by that freed me from the grief of love;
I am beholden to your dagger-dealing, wanton glance.
I weep, and all my purpose in this deluge of my tears
is that seed of love, that I may sow it in my heart for you.
Grant me, of your grace, admittance to your side, that, heart aflame,
at your feet, moment on moment, I may rain down pearls for you.
Hafez, wine and the beloved and the way of the rend are not your mode;
yet, all in all, you follow them — and in you I let it pass.
