← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 247

O breeze, withhold not your passage by the Friend's abode,
and withhold not from her a word to the heart-lost lover.
In thanks that you have blossomed to fortune's desire, O rose,
withhold not the breeze of union from the dawn-bird.
I was the comrade of your love when you were the new moon;
now that you are the full moon, withhold not your glance.
The world and all that is in it are trifling and slight;
from the people of gnosis withhold not this slight gift.
Now that your sweet ruby lip is a fountain of candy,
speak the word, and withhold not sugar from the parrot.
The poet bears your bounties to the world's far horizons;
withhold not from him the stipend and the provision for the road.
Since you seek a good remembrance, the word is this:
that for the price of the word you withhold not silver and gold.
The dust of grief will lift, the heart grow glad, O Hafez;
withhold not the water of your eyes from this passing way.
