Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 244
O boon-companions, loosen the knot from the Friend's tress;
the night is fair — draw it out long with this tale.
The intimate privacy is present, and the friends are gathered;
recite 'And truly' and make the door fast.
The rebec and the harp cry out with a loud voice:
'Give the mind's ear to the message of the keepers of the secret.'
By the Friend's life, grief shall not rend your veil,
if you set your trust upon the graces of the Contriver.
Between the lover and the Beloved there is vast difference:
when the Friend shows disdain, do you show your pleading.
The first counsel of the Elder of the company is this word:
that you keep yourself clear of the unworthy companion.
Whoever, in this circle, is not alive by love —
say the funeral prayer over him, by my decree, though he be not yet dead.
And if Hafez should ask a bounty of you,
refer him to the lip of the heart-caressing Friend.
