Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 223
Never shall your image fade from the tablet of my heart and soul;
never shall that swaying cypress pass from my remembrance.
From the mind of me, bewildered, the fancy of your mouth
will not depart, for all the sphere's tyranny and the sorrow of the age.
In eternity my heart forged its bond with the head of your tress;
to everlasting it will not rebel, nor break from the covenant.
Whatever, save the burden of your grief, weighs on my wretched heart
departs from my heart; but that grief will never depart.
So has love of you taken its seat in my heart and soul
that, though my life should go, from heart and soul it shall not go.
If my heart runs after the fair, it is excused —
it bears a wound; what can it do but seek its cure?
Whoever would not be left, like Hafez, in bewilderment,
gives not his heart to the fair, nor follows after them.
