Un presagio da Hafez
Ghazal 157
Whoever burns with passion for the green down on your lip
will never set his foot outside this circle while he lives.
When I rise, tulip-like, up from the dust of the grave,
the brand of my passion for you will be the core of my inmost heart.
You, O single, matchless pearl — where, after all, are you,
for grief of you has turned the eyes of men to a whole sea?
From the root of my every lash the water flows and runs — come,
if you've a mind to see the brimming stream and its spectacle.
Like rose and wine, come forth a moment from behind the veil, then in,
for another meeting such as this may never dawn again.
May the long-drawn shadow of the curve of your tress fall over my head,
for in this shade alone the frenzied heart can find its rest.
Your eye, all coquetry, will not incline to Hafez — true enough;
this heavy-lidded pride is the graceful narcissus' way.
