← Fāl-e Hāfez
Un presagio da Hafez

Ghazal 152

In eternity the ray of your beauty breathed forth from its epiphany;
love came into being then, and set the whole wide world ablaze.
Your face made its display, and saw the angel had no love;
it turned to very fire from jealousy, and struck at Adam's clay.
Reason longed to kindle a lamp from that great flame's light;
the lightning of jealousy flashed forth and threw the world in turmoil.
The pretender sought to enter the theatre where the secret shows;
the hand of the Unseen came down and struck the stranger's breast.
All others cast the lot of their allotted share on pleasure's side;
it was our sorrow-laden heart alone that cast its lot on grief.
The lofty heaven-born soul yearned deep for the well of your dimpled chin;
it plunged its hand into the coil of that tress, curl within curl.
Hafez inscribed the joyful chronicle of your love on that same day
when he drew the pen straight through the goods and gear of a heart at ease.
